Our Story

In 2009 Sam purchased 10 goats and decided to start making goats’ cheese by hand in his kitchen sink! The business blossomed and produced tonnes of award – winning Norfolk Mardler and Wensum White goat’s cheese.

However, in 2020 covid hit and the demand for our cheese disappeared overnight. With quick thinking and a big dose of courage Sam saw an opportunity to support the local community.

The Goat Shed Farm Shop started as a garden shed with an honesty box system. At the start of the Covid lockdown, in response to reports of empty supermarket shelves, we began to stock additional products. Within a matter of days, we swept out a redundant barn and turned it into a temporary farm shop, sourcing products that customers asked for, from toilet roll to flour, alcohol and chocolate.

We were a lifeline for the community during lockdown, providing a safe space to shop and a welcoming smile and time for a chat at the till. Customers asked us if we would continue post lockdown, we told them we would if they kept coming. In February 2021 we opened in a purpose-built agricultural building, having secured grant funding to make this possible.

Fast forward to 2024 our Farm Shop and Kitchen is open 7 days a week, offering the best produce from Norfolk and beyond, and a unique, fun and welcoming experience for visitors of all ages. Our vision is ‘Creating Smiles though Food, Farming and Family’ and we are proud to say that we achieve this day in, day out. From the goats that greet visitors as they arrive to our warm and friendly team who live our values every day, everything is designed to bring joy and create memories.

Interview process

First Stage – You will be invited to a formal interview that will enable you to tell us about yourself and we will share our story with you too and all the great reasons for working with us. You will then be asked a series of questions regarding your experiences, knowledge and why you would like to be part of our team. You will also have the opportunity to ask us anything you would like to know.

Second Stage – The second stage will normally consist of either a trial or second interview depending on the role. This stage is for you to showcase your skills to us and for you to see what it is like to work within our team. You will be informed of what this will be at your first interview so you can be prepared.

We are committed to letting candidates know the outcome of their interview within one week of interview.
